The portions at the Mexican restaurant were pretty big. But my wife thought the A la cartes were better. I thought the buffet was on par with the A La cartes. It was nice to sit and be served for a change. We tried both the a la carte restaurants. None of us had any problems in that respect. I saw reviews complaining about getting sick. If you are less picky than an eight year old, you should be able to find enough that you like to keep you from starving. But they enjoyed the ice cream, M&Ms, pastries and other deserts. But because it was different from what we have ay home, our kids wouldn’t eat it. In my opinion the food was ok, but not spectacular. If you have a lot to plug in, bring a (two pronged) power bar. There weren’t a lot of power plugs in the room. We weren’t really too worried about someone hauling our safe away though. As someone else mentioned the safe wasn’t secured very well. But the kitchen sink had a definite whiff of sewage stink coming out of it. All three drains in the bathroom were fine. One big failing grade I will give the room was the sort of kitchen sink just as you enter the room. You can often smell the same smell the minute you step off the plane and onto the bridge at the airport. We’ve experienced this in the Caribbean many times before. Ours was slightly musty, but not too bad. I also saw many complaints about the rooms being musty. I’ve been in fancier hotels with better shower heads that had half the flow of this one, so based on that, I will give the shower a 10/10. I saw a review complaining about the shower head that made me laugh. My suggestion for a shower or bath is to run the cold fully and control the temperature with the hot. In fact, there wasn’t enough cold water to control the hot water. Everything in the bathroom worked properly and there was plenty of hot water. As many have already mentioned, the room was very dated. Unlike most resorts we’ve been to, they want it back at the end. The check in was relatively quick and easy. This was our first time vacationing in Mexico after staying at many different comparable resorts in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. My wife and I vacationed with our two kids at the Samba Vallarta in March. Overall, I could have gone to Riu (price was comparable when I booked it). Staff at the buffet, restaurants and bar were very friendly and helpful despite the meager offerings. Staff at reception looked like they did not want to be there, mostly unhelpful. I didn't even bother booking the Mexican one, I was done with it. I booked Venezia restaurant for dinner and it was very bad I ended up going to the buffet right after. There's only 1 buffet restaurant and there's a line up to get in during breakfast. The buffet food was ok, nothing extraordinary. There's no room service so you can't order food late night either. There was one night when the bar closed the same time as the buffet. Buffet closes at 2230 and the bar is only until 2330. Not enough plugs so you either choose between more light or charging your phone I booked it because of the glowing reviews albeit some concerns about the rooms but here's what I found when I got there:īooked a standard room, it's old, had a weird smell and clearly needs some updates.
